"Old Kashan Cypress Rug, 128 X 203 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool In Iran Before 1950, Very Good Condition"
Kachan decorated with cypresses as a tree of life, and beautiful curvilinear design, architecture, bouquets of flowers in vases and cornucopias and birds.
On a field, burgundy red and a midnight blue border background, numerous bouquets of pistachio flowers and roses.
This decorative rug, above all, takes up the decor of a prayer by presenting a flowery mihrab accompanied by two long geminate columns with pendants for the base and vases for the top.
For the Kachan as for the Kirman, a mihrab placed on a carpet does not always give rise to prayer, but also to a style of carpet intended for home decoration. Two drawings of mausoleums bring a sacred character to the room, softened by flowers and peacocks.
Between two peacocks, symbol of immortality, we see the Mainu Spentas cypress, linked to the Zoroastrian religion.
He is believed to be associated with the light of the God Ormuzd and with Zoroaster, upon his death he is transported to the highest point of the mountain and there he is transformed. Other legends say it is the tallest cypress in the world, the cypress of paradise, planted by Zoroaster and Kashmar (Torchiz). It is easy to understand the importance of each symbol on this type of carpet.
This piece measures 128 cm wide and 203 cm long and is in very good condition, even perfect, for a carpet that can be placed between 1930 and 1950. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in the center of Iran.
## We find in the Kirman production the same kind of decor with much more rigor and straight lines.
During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Finely woven carpets, of very rich composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance.
These examples are called Kachan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The settings are varied and meticulously crafted: hunting scenes, figured subjects inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kachan took their place among the best Persian rugs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
