"Engraving By Fred Deux, Untitled?"
Born in 1924 into a family of workers in the Paris suburbs, Fred Deux worked in factories very early on. Threats from the occupier made him join a group of resistance fighters in 1943, then end the fight by enlisting in the corps of goumiers. Through a combination of circumstances, he found himself employed in a bookstore in Marseille. There he discovered books and, with passion, everything that reading gave him access to. That of B. Cendrars, A. Breton, H. Miller opens up an unexpected horizon for him. Then it was the revelation of art through Paul Klee, first, then the surrealists. In 1970 for the first time, Cécile Reims engraved based on drawings by Fred Deux, who had never practiced engraving. Signed lower right: CF.Deux, numbered lower left: 7/50
