This splendid work painted on a panel with a gold background depicting the Virgin and Child is by far the most iconic and venerated image for Christian devotion.
Magnificent jewel of Byzantine art under the rule of the Republic of Venice, it represents the highest meeting point between the two great schools of East and West, between the famous Tuscan tables and the ancient Russian icons. Cretan artists in the golden centuries of the Serenissima, stimulated by the Venetian masters, fused the teachings of Moscow and Florence with excellent results.
Our panel was created between of the 16th century by a valid Venetian-Cretan artist and is distinguished by a remarkable fineness of the painting and the burin decoration on the halos.
The quality level of this table is decidedly remarkable and must be included in the best iconographic production of the Greek Island.
