Object description :

"Painting (oil On Canvas): The Martyr Of Saint Bernard And His Sisters Mary And Grace, Late 17th Century"
Large painting, oil on canvas (without relining) with its original frame, representing Saint Bernard at the moment of his martyrdom, surrounded by his Muslim brother who had condemned him to death, warriors, his executioner and his two sisters , who were beheaded after a short time. Ahmet, son of a noble Muslim family, lived in the region of Valencia (Spain) during the reign of Muslims (Andalusia). He and his two sisters are converts from Islam to the faith of Christ. So Ahmet became a Cistercian monk and was called Bernard; Zaîda and Zoraîda become: Sisters: Marie and Grace. Their martyrdoms took place in 1180. They became Saints and Martyrs of the Christian Church. Anonymous painter (German or Austrian?) from the end of the 17th century. As is (small accidents and wear). Authentic framing. .
