Hacksaw, gunsmith's tool? Wrought iron with blade marked Peugeot and turned hardwood handle, reinforced and held with a saw blade , beautiful original patina. Brass ferrule.
The blade tension is adjusted by a wing nut screwed onto a threaded rod. The blade bears the Peugeot brand and three other words that are difficult to read (see photos). The Peugeot company has existed since 1810 and has manufactured saw blades since 1818 (certainly including this one replacing that of the original saw, therefore for part 18th century handle).
Good condition (just a little missing at the end of the handle), beautiful patina.
