This prestigious octagonal-shaped casket is in gilded and finely chiselled bronze, with tortoiseshell tiles underneath: The lid is embellished with a beautiful oval cameo, depicting a sacred scene in extreme detail. The interior of the box is entirely lined in silk. On the lock, bearing its original key, there is the signature of the famous cabinetmaker Alphonse Tahan (Paris 1830-1880), known for having been chosen by Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie as court cabinetmaker.
