"Odor Cellar In Opaline “gorge De Pigeon” Charles "
Scent cellar in blown and cut opaline crystal, gilded bronze frame including six bottles with their removable caps. All the so-called “pigeon throat” opaline bottles are cut with a so-called “bamboo” cut and their necks are set with a gilded bronze ring. The caps return to the same size. The top of this odor cellar is decorated with a frieze of flower bouquets from which hydrangeas and floral garlands emerge. On this tray, six circular compartments decorated with a wheel decoration accommodate the bottles, thus allowing more stability during transport. The tray rests on four lion's paws. This opaline color is rare and exceptional. Indeed, to opacify the crystal was added: bone ash, tin and arsenic. Finally this pink color was obtained by the addition of gold salts. Only a few production centers were able to produce such colors such as Le Creusot, Baccarat, Saint-Louis or Choiy-le-Roi. The distribution of these crystals was marketed by merchants established around the Palais-Royal such as "The Crystal Staircase". The interplay of matt and burnished bronze and the high quality of the crystal work are characteristic of the production of toilet objects that appeared in the first part of the 19th century under the Restoration.
