A silver snuff box set with an agate intaglio of Saint Jerome.The silver snuff box is English and dates to the second half of the 17th century.
The intaglio is Italian and dates to the 16th / 17th century.
Measures 5.3 x 4.5 x 1.8cm.
The body of the box is decorated with a repeating motif of acanthus leafs interspersed by grotesque masks. The lid of the box is set with an agate intaglio of Saint Jerome kneeling before a crucifix. The intaglio in the lid is set within a rope twist and dogs tooth border, surrounded by leafy swags upon a stippled ground.
