The silver snuff box is English and dates to the second half of the 17th century.
The intaglio is Italian and dates to the 16th / 17th century.
Measures 5.3 x 4.5 x 1.8cm.
The body of the box is decorated with a repeating motif of acanthus leafs interspersed by grotesque masks. The lid of the box is set with an agate intaglio of Saint Jerome kneeling before a crucifix. The intaglio in the lid is set within a rope twist and dogs tooth border, surrounded by leafy swags upon a stippled ground.
