*Émile Mesnager (1880-1940) is a Breton painter born in Nantes, where he worked most of his career and living in 2 impasse Dubois.
Mesnager produced primarily still lifes and nudes, using his mastery of these genres as a basis for the continued refinement of his technique.
Drawing on both pointillist and divisionist brushwork, Mesnager sought to convey the most subtle gradations of light and texture on his canvases.
In his highly cropped compositions, the artist became known for his intimate vignettes of the gardens and salons of the Belle Époque in France.
Through this style, Mesnager became one of the leading exponents of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist technique within an informal group of artists extending these movements into the 20th century.
During his later career, his artistic skills led him to participate in important restoration projects, including the preservation of the famous works of Eugène Fromentin at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes in 1931.
