The biblical story features Joseph (son of Jacob), sold as a slave in Egypt, where his master is an officer of Pharaoh named Potiphar. But Potiphar's wife tries to seduce Joseph, who rejects her advances. She then accuses him of trying to rape her. Potiphar, who takes her word for it, has Joseph imprisoned. He will remain in prison for two years, until Pharaoh recognizes his value and gives him command of Egypt (Gen 41:37-43). This plot seems inspired by that of the famous ancient Egyptian tale entitled "Tale of the Two Brothers", namely the woman who tries to seduce a man and causes him harm following his refusal, claiming that he would have tried to have a relationship with her.
