Large Karrer Music Box With Automata flag

Object description :

"Large Karrer Music Box With Automata"
Large music box with 3 automatons and 10 bells made in about 1875. The long cylinder (38.5cm) plays 8 tunes as indicated on the original tunesheet. There are 10 bells, 6 are struck by 3 brightly colored automatons, 2 by bee-strikers and 2 are dummy bells. The automatons turn the heads from left to right as they strike the bells. The mechanism is fixed to the case with 4 screws (to front and back). The case is raised on small black feed and has inlay to the top of the lid and to the front. Flowerly marquetry with different sorts of rosewood. The left, right and back of the case has rosewood simulation as one should expect for music boxes of this era. The original tunesheet has indicated the cylinder is pinned with a mandolin setting, playing joyful tunes in bright tone. The music box is made by Karrer, a rare to find maker for quality music boxes located in Teufenthal (Swiss) untill about 1880. https://youtu.be/NIFqg-oOMtg
