Beautiful watercolor by the Avignon painter Louis Agricol Montagné which represents a view of Avignon, with its ramparts and the bell tower of the Doms Cathedral, taken from the island of Barthelasse.
An artist who is used to depicting interior scenes and landscapes using the watercolor technique, Louis Montagné offers us here a beautiful animated view of his hometown.
A student of Paul Saïn and Cormon, he appeared at the Salon des Artistes français from 1901, where he obtained numerous awards during his participation. He exhibited very early in Avignon with the merchants Kassler and Mouret and during this period created decorative panels in collaboration with the painter Paul Saïn.
Wounded during the First World War, he lost an eye.
This will not prevent him from having a brilliant career. He appointed director of the Avignon School of Fine Arts from 1920 to 1928.
Louis Agricol Montagné is part of the Group of 13.
