Was a student at the Academy until 1771. He was then a student of Joseph-Marie Vien. From 1793, he lived on rue Jacob and probably lived in this street until his death. Chasselat left drawings from the 1170s, and his first known miniatures date from around 1775, after he left the Academy school. In miniature he was a talented artist. He painted full-length portraits or three-quarter view with hands, in varied poses. (Excerpt from Les Peintres en miniature by Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard). Very highly rated artist on ArtPrice.
