"Pair Large Andirons Fireplace Bronze Castle Jupiter Junon Italy 19th"
Pair of large fireplace andirons, in bronze (antique patina) representing two mythological characters: Jupiter holding lightning with an eagle at his feet; and Juno, resting on a bowl with lion heads and claw feet, base formed by 2 dolphins, a garland of fruit and a faun's head, model by the Italian sculptor Giuseppe de Levis*, from the 19th century. These andirons are in good condition. They are of high quality and are very decorative due to their large size (probably castle fireplace andirons). A similar model of andirons with Jupiter and a so-called modest Venus, work of the sculptor Giuseppe de Levis (1552-1611), are kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Note: the two characters move a little on the base (will need to be screwed back), some wear and scratches from time, look carefully at the photos.
