Prow of a canoe in the shape of a crocodile's head collected in the Iatmul area in Papua New Guinea. Today, the canoe remains the most common means of transport in the Sepik River valley. Most of these canoes used in the lower and middle Sepik regions have a sculpted bow representing the head of a crocodile, an animal feared and revered. Wood with traces of use.
