Thomire, Exceptional Wall Cartel From The Empire Period. 96 Cm. flag

Object description :

"Thomire, Exceptional Wall Cartel From The Empire Period. 96 Cm."
Spectacular CARTEL in chiseled, gilded and patinated bronze whose dial is supported by an imposing winged victory holding a large palm in each hand.
The goddess of victory resting on an extended half-sphere of lotus leaves and olive branches. The large dial, 22 cm in diameter, gilded and enameled with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, is signed Léonard Roussel, collaborator of Pierre-Philippe Thomire and whose signature is only found on rare and superb clocks, all attributed to Thomire.

This extremely rare cartel model is inspired by a drawing by Charles Percier and Pierre-Leonard Fontaine engraved in the Collection of Interior Decorations, 1802, plate IV.
This same drawing generates different creations, including candelabras referenced in the work of Marie-France Dupuy-Baylet, l'heure, Le Feu, La Lumière Les Bronzes du Mobilier National 1800-1870, Dijon 2010, p. 214

As with most of the rare cartels of this type, produced under the Consulate and the Empire, between 1799 and 1815, the wire movements were poorly suited to this type of case. These were replaced under the Restoration, Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III by movements from Paris, much more reliable and precise.
That of this superb cartel is the work of Adolphe Mougin (1835-1889), for which he obtained two gold medals at the universal exhibitions of Paris in 1878 and 1889. (Photos on request).

Perfect working condition, with its pendulum and key. Movement revised by an art watchmaker.

Good condition, normal wear to the gilding. Not cleaned.

Original chain and top clip supplied (photos on request).

Empire period.

Attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843).

Very rare, only one other similar model went on sale at the Hôtel Drouot: https://drouot.com/fr/l/22143300-cartel-en-bronze-cisele-dore-e
