Rare oil on canvas representing a view of a port in Finistère (Brittany), most certainly that of Audierne, with boats moored at a quay animated by numerous characters, signed Legout-Gérard* and dated 1896, late period Nineteenth century. This painting is in good condition and of exceptional quality. Signed and dated 96 lower right. Note: slight wear over time on the frame (rear), see photos. * Fernand Legout-Gérard (1856-1924): in 1889 he broke with the Ministry of the Navy which employed him to devote himself to painting. He appeared at the Société nationale and at the Salon from 1889 to 1894 with paintings of Brittany, landscapes, scenes from the life of fishermen and sailors, to which one cannot refuse impressive nocturnal effects of mastery, and shimmering colors in his pastels. Legout-Gérard has participated in numerous international exhibitions. He is now one of the best-known painters of the “Concarneau group”.
