Beautiful work by the French painter from Bordeaux, Jean-Gabriel Domergue, which represents a young blonde woman named "Christina" on a light background. The work is treated with finesse and delicacy by the artist in order to best show the characteristics and expressiveness of his model.

Jean Gabriel Domergue, little cousin of the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, considers himself the inventor of the pin-up. He also depicts couples at social events and naked women in his compositions in a stereotypical manner. His favorite subject remains women.

Student at the Beaux-Arts of the city of Paris of the painters Jules Lefebvre, Tony Robert-FLeury, Jules Adler, Ferdinand Humbert and François Flameng, Jean-Gabriel Domergue exhibited at the French artists' salons from 1906.
In 1936 and 1938, the painter was member of the jury for the election of Miss France.
In 1938, he executed a composition including a nude woman for the campaign for the new perfume Féérie by Rigaud. It was he who created the poster for the first edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
In 1950, he was elected a member of the Institut de France and became curator of the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris from 1955 to 1962, where he organized exhibitions on the painting of Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec and Goya.

Today his works are present in numerous public and private collections.

Dimensions: 32 x 24 cm without frame and 46 x 37 cm with its original gilded wood frame.

Nb: Old, scattered fine cracks of origin (rapid drying of the paint), without impact on the work, should be noted in the background.
