Jean Rigaud (1912-1999) Departure from New York Oil on canvas signed lower left, titled and dated 1986 on the back. Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm Dimensions with frame: 55 x 72 cm This work is rare in the artist's production since he has been to New York only once in his career. He embarked in Brest with the Navy painters André Hamburg and François Bellec on the helicopter carrier Jeanne D'arc. Direction New York for the “Statue of Liberty mission” to represent the French Navy for the centenary of this monument. From November 18 to December 6, 1986 he exhibited his works in New York at the Galerie des Orfèvres in Paris. Our work was most likely in this exhibition. Note that a small format canvas that arrived in New York exists.
