Important Cast Iron Bust Of Athena, 20th Century flag

Object description :

" Important Cast Iron Bust Of Athena, 20th Century"
- Cast iron bust representing the goddess Athena (Minerva), daughter of Zeus (Jupiter), goddess devoted to wisdom, war, sciences and the arts. She is represented here with her head turned to the right, wavy hair topped with an elegantly decorated helmet adorned with a crest. She wears a breastplate revealing her feminine forms and decorated in its center with a figure of terror, that of the gorgoneion, the head of the Gorgon Medusa.

- This sculpture has great expressiveness due to the finesse and realism with which the sculptor of the model represented this bust. The treatment of the face follows the codes of classical Greek aesthetics; the face is smooth, the nose straight, the eyes not very deep-set, the mouth with its fleshy lower lip barely half open. What emerges is a warlike energy guided by determination, a representation faithful to the temperament of Athena who, according to the myth, is born with a bang, adult and fully armed, asserting, from her first cries, her character. impetuous.

- Cast iron sculpture, work from the beginning of the 20th century - Good state of conservation, the base slightly deformed (see photos).
