"Domed Moroccan Box With Double-headed Eagles, 17th Century"
Domed or rounded box covered with red morocco and richly decorated with small golden irons and numerous golden double-headed eagles. On the front, a large lock in gilded steel and its clasp, on the back a hinge also in gilded steel. On both sides, two gilded steel clasps, one of which seems restored or remade. The box is lined with velvet (back?). The use of this luxurious box of rare shape remains unknown to us: for the transport of a high quality glass, a precious religious hat, a crown, a gold cup? In any case, it is the sign of a precious good. The double-headed eagle indicates a German or Russian original? Very good state of conservation for this rare and luxurious box.
