Originally from Iranian Kurdistan and the town of Siné, today Sanandaj.
period 1900 - 1920
Called Senneh, these carpets are extremely fine, far from other Kurdistan carpets and current production.
The silky midnight blue field is covered with a very regular sowing of flowers called herati which represent stylized tulips.
A floral decoration alternates with hexagons in the main border, which is surrounded by small floral bands as well.
This type of rug exudes perfect harmony, the wool used is soft, silky and shiny.
This piece has always been wonderfully well maintained, which has allowed the velvet to remain in impeccable condition.
The production of Senneh has many similarities with the carpets of Bidjar or other nomadic regions and is recognized for its quality and resistance, the knotting is much finer and the designs more refined.
The fame of the Senneh is due to the quality of its old carpets made to order of merchants and the taste of customers.
The use of a cotton weft thread in place of a wool weft, a shorter shave to obtain a cleaner design (therefore excellent quality wool), and a density varying between 420,000 to 750,000 knots at square meter are the main characteristics of Senneh carpets before 1970 1980.
Senneh kilims are as renowned as knotted carpets.
Today, since the 1980s, the quality of Sennehs has declined significantly, and the number of knots has dropped to 200,000 knots per square meter.
In addition, workshops often use chemical dyes, and the designs are always identical. In a word, a lack of artistic and artisanal quality which made the reputation of the ancient Sennehs.
