The handle of the seal depicts an intertwined animal fight involving three dogs, a lion and a bear.
The animals are very realistic and arranged in a very moving and fabulous swirling composition. The animals bite each other, there emerges from the whole a rage which transcribes the tension of such a fight.
The lion's fur, the lion's mane, the dogs' ribs and their muscles are rendered with naturalistic fidelity.
The base of the handle is carved with a corola of palmettes.
The silver matrix is encrypted RB; the edge is engraved with a frieze of flowers as a reminder of the base of the handle and the inscription “Seule” (?).
I have not been able to identify the origin of this seal, the style reminds me of Germanic work from the 19th century, in the taste of the high period, without certainty. The socket may be older. The material is superbly patinated with visible and sensitive veins.
In any case, it is a magnificent work of sculpture, remarkable for the quality of the work and the dimensions of the object.
4 inches tall
4.1 cm maximum diameter
3 cm in diameter for the matrix alone.
137.15 grams gross
Very good state. The foot of the silver matrix slightly twisted.
