Circa 1806 France Large panel in Toile de Jouy, First Empire period, entitled "Pallas and Venus", drawing by Jean-Baptiste Huet from the Oberkampf factory. Printed on cotton with a copper roller in manganese violet, the definition of the engraving is identical to that of intaglio. Neo-classical design of geometric medallions with antique effigies loaded with putti, hunting dog, arrows, caduceus motifs on an architectural background. Oberkampf was awarded a 1st class gold medal awarded at the Exhibition of Industrial Products and above all, on June 20, 1806, he received a visit from the imperial couple at the end of which Napoleon decorated him with his own Cross of the Legion of Honor, declaring that “no one was more worthy to wear it”. Note a very slight color variation at the bottom, difficult to perceive. Otherwise clean, with no holes or intense manganese violet stains. Good general condition of color and conservation.
