Louis-Claude MALBRANCHE
Born September 3, 1790 in Caen / Died November 4, 1838 in Caen.
Painter of animated landscapes and snow landscapes.
Louis-Claude MALBRANCHE's art is strongly influenced by the 18th century, and belongs to the movement that includes Demarne, Swebach and Taunay. However, he is closest to César Van Loo. Louis-Claude MALBRANCHE was a pupil of Prévôt and Bergeret, and exhibited at the Salon from 1812 to 1838. His first snow landscape appeared in 1822. Louis-Claude MALBRANCHE went on to become a specialist in snow effects and winter lighting, which led him to depict mountainous sites such as the Vosges, the Mont Blanc massif and Switzerland from 1837 onwards. Also very attached to Normandy, he painted in the Auge valley (Caen, Honfleur, Trouville). Louis-Claude MALLEBRANCHE left views of Brittany, Picardy and Seine-et-Marne, frequenting Meaux and Coulommiers. In 1830, Louis-Claude MALLEBRANCHE appeared at the Luxembourg Exhibition with a view of the Paris area and another of Honfleur.
