Albert Ernest CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1824-1884) ceramic ewer. Ewer decorated with one side and a male nude leaning on a shepherd's staff accompanied by a dog, on the other side a female nude caressing a greyhound, an allegory of Diana the huntress. The body is finished with a mask. The handle is carved in imitation of bamboo. Green cartridges on a blue and black background. Albert Carrier-Belleuse is a major sculptor of the Second Empire and disseminator of the neo-renaissance style. At the invitation of Léon Arnoux, director of the Minton Manufacture, he created several models there from 1851 to 1855. His recruitment was part of the political will of the British government to promote national industry by inviting the greatest artists of the time. He then took charge of the Sèvres Manufacture where he collaborated with Auguste Rodin (1824-1887) to create some ceramic sculptures.
