Old Kirsehir Rug, 88 X 126 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Anatolia, Türkiye, First Part Of The 19th Century

We are here to meet your requirements! Ancient Kirsehir or Kir-chehir carpet, originating from Anatolia in Turkey from the first part of the 19th century, in wool on wool, presenting a double Mihrab. The first, cherry red, is placed on a pearl gray background in another niche. The two triangular vertices are cut in a staircase, and reproduced in the three basic colors to give an effect of perspective. The interior of the niches is sober, without ornamentation, except for the sowing of flowers which frame them as well as the lantern suspended in the center. At the foot and above the niche, we find boards decorated with large apple tree flowers, stylized in yellow and red. The main border is rich in a very elaborate decoration of flowers, cherry red, yellow, and pearl gray, of great harmony. The braids running along the border take up the zigzag line motif, a symbol of water and eternity found on carpets from Anatolia and the Caucasus. The Kirsehir are part of a lesser known group, but with particularly original designs that Eastern Turkey produced. The Kirsehir and their neighbors, the Moudjour carpets have a geometric decoration which can be explained by the mountainous location of these two villages in south-eastern Turkey. The floral element on Kirsehir is always very stylized and it is sometimes difficult to discern it. The basic colors are most often cherry red and pastel green. There are similarities with the Moudjour, but the shades are much darker and the stepped niches are of a single shade. This leads to confusion between these two styles of rugs in terms of names and presentations. Our model is a beautiful example of this group and this wonderful knotting work, in very good condition, given its age, it is a beautiful collector's rug. Old restorations are visible, knotted in pale blue and mouse gray. (Pictures) . They in no way spoil the beauty of this very rare luminous piece, a beautiful artifact of Anatolian culture and devotion. the photo on the back shows us a reinforcement of black linen strips applied at the top and bottom of the carpet.
