Old Senneh Rug, 110 X 152 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Iran Circa 1950, In Very Good Used Condition

Originally from Iranian Kurdistan and the town of Siné, today Sanandaj, this carpet was knotted around 1950.
It measures 110 cm wide by 152 cm long.
Called Senneh, these carpets are extremely fine, far from other Kurdistan carpets and current production.
Traditionally, hand-knotted rugs still represent the highest quality standard among all types of rugs. Depending on the type of knot, the carpets are extremely robust and can last several generations, which is the case with this type of carpet. The finer and tighter a rug is knotted, the more detailed ornaments and designs can be represented on the pile.
At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires much greater manual effort as well as a higher level of experience and skill of the knotter. Thus, the knot density is also a decisive value factor for hand-knotted rugs. Quality is not directly related to node density. A fairly coarse carpet may well have been made in an excellent manner and with high quality wool. The production of Senneh bears many resemblances to carpets from Bidjar or other nomadic regions and is recognized for its quality and resistance. , the knotting is much finer and the designs more refined. This model belongs to the village and nomad carpets of Iran, formerly Persia. This type of carpet is hand-knotted in small towns and villages according to the ancient tradition. Even nomads have still been tying Persian rugs outdoors for many generations.
The rugs are tied without a pattern and entirely from memory. They are characterized by classic ornaments, which are arranged in straight, geometric patterns.
