Object description :

"Tea Caddy, Japanese Lacquer, 2 Compartments, Hiramaki-e, Takamaki-e, Nashi-ji, Meiji, 19th C"
Very pretty box, rectangular in format with rounded corners. The lid has a decoration in Takamaki-e lacquer (high relief), gold and red on a dark background, of a child playing the flute on the back of a buffalo. The interior reveals two black lacquer compartments, the lids of which slide outwards to access the respective boxes. They are decorated in Hiramaki-e lacquer (light relief) with butterflies on a Nashi-ji (pointillism) background, in beautiful quality, with great detail. The inside of the lid is decorated with shells and crustaceans in Hiramaki-e gold lacquer. Stylized brass key hole and hinged lid. Presence on the cover of ideograms in a fan-shaped cartouche.. signature? Or model?
Condition: The outer box is unfortunately in poor condition: several lacquer breaks, mainly in the corners and borders, a significant loss in the border on the back. Please look carefully at my detailed photos, I'm not hiding anything! Japanese working, dating from the second part of the 19th century, Meiji period, for export to the West, Circa 1870.
Dimensions: 17cm H x 29cm x 18cm
