Work of the Avignon painter Auguste Roure which represents a towpath on the banks of the Rhône on the Barthelasse island side.
The towpath is a path built along a waterway to allow boats to be towed and which serves as a service road for the maintenance of the waterway.
An apprentice engraver in a printing house in Avignon, he was encouraged by his brother and entered the city's school of fine arts.
A student of Pierre Grivolas, he participated in exhibitions of the Société Vauclusienne des beaux-arts and attended the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1908.
In 1919, he became a professor at the school of fine arts in the city of Avignon and led an international career, exhibiting in Tokyo (1926) and New York (1928) as well as in Geneva, Melbourne and London.
Dimensions: 41 x 33 cm without frame and 48.5 x 40 cm with its wooden frame.
