"Lucien Lévy-dhurmer (1865 - 1953) - Portrait Of A Woman In Pastel On Paper"
Pastel on Paper with its frame by Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, artist born in Algiers on September 30, 1865, painter, sculptor, ceramist and great French symbolist. Friend of Claude Debussy, music is important in his work. He obviously rubbed shoulders with Odilon Redon and Gustave Moreau, then even spent a few years in Golfe-Juan producing for the Massiers. From 1896 he participated in the exhibition of painters of the soul with Emile Gallé, it was then that his activity as a pastellist intensified. He exhibited in many other places from the Salon d'Automne to the Salons des Orientalistes.Here the subject is a portrait of a woman with red hair and a pearl necklace, it is signed by the artist at the bottom right. On the back of the work, a FLTOURET framer label with the illustration, is also present on the portrait of Pierre Loti from the Bayonne Museum. Considering similar works, this one dates from around 1896-1900.
Major museums hold his works, notably the Louvre, the Petit-Palais, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Brest, as well as Orsay which will hold an exhibition on him entitled "Pastels by Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer (1865-1953), a " artist of the soul "" in 2022, exhibiting among others his famous "Le Silence".
