Armored Box In The Taste Of Bagard, 18th Century flag

Object description :

"Armored Box In The Taste Of Bagard, 18th Century"
- Rectangular wooden armorial box of Saint Lucy, known as Bagard in reference to the productions of the workshop of the sculptor César Bagard (Nancy, 1620-1709). Work from Lorraine, around 1700.

- Organized in compartments, the decor of this box plays on contrasts between highly animated surfaces filled with finely sculpted patterns and smoother frames like breathing spaces to better enhance the lines of force of the object . The finely sculpted decoration, rigorously composed to obtain perfect symmetry, develops in the form of free scrollwork. The latter deploy loops of flowering plants in all directions, thus occupying the entire decorative field of each compartment. The scrolls adorning the sloping lid are inhabited, in the center, by a bird and a monogram "MAV" topped with a marquis crown. - Inside is stretched a light-colored silk velvet.

- Good state of conservation, small missing in one corner (See Photos), rear lock. - Dimensions: Width: 29.5 cm, Depth: 23.5 cm, Height: 11.5 cm
