Oil on canvas, 46 x 53 cm
With frame, cm 58 x 65
Son and pupil of the famous combatant Christian Reder active in Rome especially for the Rospigliosi family (cf. G. Sestieri, Repertorio della Pittura Romana della fine del Seicento e del Settecento, Torino 1994, vol. I, pp. 156-57- volume III, fig. 965)Giovanni was also a skilled artist dedicated to the landscape genre. To confirm this attribution we can mention the similar paintings kept at the Pallavicini Gallery in Rome, depicting a Trip to the countryside and a Rest during hunting, made known by Federico Zeri (The Pallavicini Gallery in Rome, Florence, Sansoni, 1959, nn. 349, 350)in which the artist animates the vast landscapes with figures of gleaming elegance, in absolutely characteristic ways and that are also found in some paintings of Parties and Hunts from the collection of the Rospigliosi Princes, preserved today at the Museum of Rome.
