"Pair Of Spanish Artistic Figures Goyesque Style - Fondation Des Guildes"
This magnificent pair of porcelain figurines evokes an important historical moment from the Romantic era in Spain, influenced by Goya and his style of dress. This movement began in the 18th century but reached its peak between 1820 and 1840, marking the onset of equality in clothing and fashion trends. The figurines presented depict a maja and a majo, also known as manolo or goyesco (all three names are valid). The maja wears a basquiña or skirt, a monillo or short jacket, and atop her head, a caramba (a net for hair ornaments). The majo, on the other hand, sports a jacket, stockings, buckle shoes, and a cofia or madroñera with a ponytail. In his right hand, he holds a wide-brimmed hat (chambergo), while in his left hand, a cape reminiscent of a bullfighting ambiance hangs.
At the base of the figurines are the initials FG of the Guilds Foundation, closed in 1998, with the inscription "made in Spain," hand-decorated.
