Object description :

"Hirschfanger Germanic Hunting Dagger With Engraved Blade Circa 1820"
This beautiful hunting dagger is a typically Germanic "Hirschfanger". It dates from the 19th century and the representation of the hunters and their accessories would incline to date it from the first half of the 19th, since we can clearly identify that the rifle of the hunter who is shooting and those of the weapon trophies are equipped with flintlocks mechanisms. In addition, the shape of the blade is very close to the Prussian regulation blade model 1810.
The weapon is complete, with its small knife, which is a part often missing on this type of dagger.
BLADE of the dagger: It is a strong blade with a thick back and a single edge except near the tip where there is a small counter-edged edge on the last 6 cm. Each side is richly and very finely decorated with acid
On the external side: A radiant sun, then a hunter standing next to a fir tree, his rifle under his arm, then a dog at the edge of a pond, then a first plant trophy, from which a branch of oak and an acorn, then a weapons trophy with flag, flintlock rifle and hunting horn, then finally a last plant trophy from which comes a branch of fern
On the internal side: branches of fern, then a hunter standing on the edge of forest, shooting a bird in flight, then a dog holding a killed bird in its mouth, then a very large trophy mixing plant elements and a weapon trophy, with flintlock rifle, hunting horn, quiver and standard, then a 14-horned deer head, behind which is a hunting dagger, and finally another plant trophy
Lenght of blade = 47.7 cl, width = 4.2 cm, thickness = 7.8 mm
GUARD of the dagger: It has strong straight quillons with 8 faces, and presents a protective steel shell, in the shape of a scallop shell.
POMMELof the dagger : It is made of polished steel, decorated with parallel bands and ends with a small button to which the tang of the blade is riveted.
GRIP : it is made of deer antler, and has 3 steel nails on the external face.
THE "BATARDEAU" (small knife) : It is "en suite" with  the dagger, with a single-edged blade, a handle made of deer antler, on which 3 nails are fixed at the level of the external face, and finally a pommel made of a plate of polished steel perfectly fitted following the shape of the handle, and ending with a small screwed button.
SCABBARD: It is made of wood covered with stitched black leather, and has an exterior compartment for the small knife Entrance to the scabbard and butt in polished steel.
This dagger should please any hunting weapon enthusiast.
