"Saint Benedict Reliquary, Circa 1600-1650, Sterling Silver, Southern Netherlands "
Very rare solid silver reliquary entirely from the Louis XIII period containing a relic of Saint-Benedict . It has decorations typical of the style of the early seventeenth century and is in a wonderful state of conservation. No trace of hallmarks . Inside the reliquary is a small, fine work of leaves and flowers containing the relic of Saint Benedict. The back of the relic is still sealed with an episcopal seal in red lacquer. Both its style and its manufacturing point to an origin in the Austrian Netherlands (current Belgium) from around 1600-1650.
