born 1905 in Blalystok, Belarus (now Poland); 1930, moves to Paris; naturalized French; 1989, dies. On a plain background, characters evoking sylphs and elves compose a refined imagery to which a slightly shaky line gives an old-fashioned charm. His illustrations of the Bible are even more sober in style, treated in the same pastel shades, bordering on abstraction; he devoted nearly 200 paintings to this theme. He is also a frontal and austere portraitist of celebrities and a landscaper for the city of Paris.
In the 1970s, he had his own gallery in Duroc, where his only works were permanently exhibited.
