Object description :

"Large 16th Century Stiletto Dagger"
This large stiletto probably originated from southern Germany or northern Italy, the decorative motifs of the blade being found more on Germanic weapons, while the rich decoration of the guard would rather evoke Italian work. The length of its blade places us more in the 16th century, because during the 17th century, the dimensions of the stiletto became more and more reduced.
This type of weapon was used to inflict narrow and deep wounds, which were very difficult to treat at the time. The section of this blade should even have allowed it to pass through certain mesh chain mails.
BLADE: It is a blade whose diamond section begins immediately after the guard. The first 5 centimeters of each face are decorated with geometric patterns in circular arcs centered on points. Length of the blade = 33.8 cm, width near the guard = 1.1 cm, thickness near the guard = 7mm
GUARD: It is a deep guard called "nave" and is richly chiseled with plant motifs. The side edges of the guard roll up to form a sort of quillon.
POMMEL : it is made of iron, in the shape of a rounded acorn with 14 grooves.
The tang of the blade is riveted to the top of this pommel.
GRIP : It is made of wood covered with leather, and has a typical 16th century profile, with a central ring.. the leather is hardened by time, it is certainly old.

The shape of this weapon makes it a curiosity, it will bring an original touch to a collection of daggers.
