"Ancient Kirman Raver, 140 Cm X 218 Cm, Silk On Wool Hand-knotted In Persia, Iran In The 19th Century"
Kirman Raver in silk and wool, Kadjar art, Persia, (Iran) circa 1880-1890, hand knotted, measuring 140 cm wide by 218 cm long, late 19th century.
In exceptional condition, museum quality rug.
Some Kirmans are called Laver, an alteration of Raver, a town near Kirman where carpets are knotted in a very careful way.
The old Laver are characterized by a large polylobed medallion, approximately oval or rhomboidal on an ivory background (our model), or a decoration of vases placed in tiers.
These two types of carpets are extremely rare today and have a chromatic delicacy particular to ancient Kirmans.
This category of carpets is rightly counted among the best of Iran's production.
Fine execution, delicacy of colors, quality of materials used make it a collector's item.
Although originating from the Iranian town of Kirman from which these carpets bear the name, a large production region, no piece is today more than one hundred and fifty years old.
In fact, carpet weaving only started in this region around 1880.
Our model is a sublime artifact of Persian culture and the Kadjar period.
The Kirman is often decorated with flowers and most of the time has a medallion which stands out against a plain background.
The motifs of the medallion are repeated in the border and the four spandrels (corners). Some of these rugs also feature large animal scenes.
Our model, a kirman raver or kirman lavar comes from the town of Raver to the north of Kirman, is nothing more than a seedling of flowers accompanied by a magnificent medallion, of great delicacy and great beauty. and four mandorlas placed in spandrels decorated with botehs.
Kerman is the largest city in southeastern Iran and is the capital of the province of the same name.
The reputation of Kirman and raver rugs is due to the excellence of the "Ostads", these cartoon designers of incredible skill have managed to keep the sense of tradition of these great Persian rugs.
The deep harmony of colors results from a perfect dosage which testifies to the great creativity of Kirman’s artisans.
The finest rugs are the most admirable and beautiful.
The greater the number of knots, the finer the rug, and more sought after by amateurs and collectors.
This piece is in magnificent condition for its age, with no major restoration except the redone edges.
This rug has been professionally cleaned in an eco-friendly manner.
