He exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1869.
Two years later, he received the Prix de Rome for his representation of a scene from the Flood and studied at the Académie de France in Rome from 1873 to 1876. Back in France , he specializes in producing portraits of personalities linked to the Third Republic.
In 1883, he made a long trip to Algeria, where he created works in the orientalist style[1], some of which earned him a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
