young crouching faun, edition terracotta, signed Silvestre on the terrace, with publisher's mark Susse Frères. Paul Silvestre 1884-1972 French artist sculptor born in Toulouse, admitted in 1905 to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, he followed the courses of Antonin Mercié there. First second grand prize of Rome in 1912, exhibited in 1921 at the Salon des artistes français, where he obtained a gold medal in 1930. he received a diploma of honor for the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques of 1937 in Paris for its four steles adorning the facade of the Languedoc-Pyrénées pavilion. Named Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1906.
