The three Levieux brothers who were simultaniously actif as silversmiths in eighteenth century Mons, were members of a true dynasty of Mons goldsmiths which began at the very beginning of the seventeenth century.
The coffee pot that I am presenting to you here is a typical product of their production, rather heavy compared to the coffee pots of other Mons goldsmiths, executed with extreme finesse and provided with some magnificent details such as the very beautiful fretel on the lid, the three pretty cast silver feet and the possibility of dismantling the cover thanks to the removable pin of its very beautiful hinge.
It is marked with large, very legible hallmarks, the tower and the monogram AE for the city of Mons, the capital letter B for the year 1746-47 and the master goldsmith hallmark CL of Charles--François Levieux.
It weighs a very generous 1160 grams of solid silver.
