"Love Poet - Fireplace Or Desk Trim From Louis XVI Atours. Circa 1880."
Placed under the auspices of the feeling of love, this charming Louis XVI Fireplace or Desk Trim is made up of three pieces executed in white marble and chiseled gilded bronze. Namely: - a lovely little "terminal" clock. Soberly dressed with a set of channels, its case surrounded by a ribboned laurel torus is decorated on its sides with consoles with scrolls foliaged with acanthus, staples festooned with spring floral garlands. Within a guilloché reserve, a pretty ribbon bow adorns its facade. Set on its bezel with alternating pearls of a fine bretté, the white enameled dial of the clock embellished with a polychrome decoration with courses of flowers called "A la Dauphine" indicates the hours and minutes in Roman and Arabic numerals. Seeming to preside over their affable and caressing flow, a cute naked toddler animates the cushioning of this watchmaking piece. of elegant formal rigor. Represented seated wisely on a small draped cloth, now on her folded right leg leaves on which her pen is pouring out, this smiling childish figure - nicely derived from a statuette modeled by Charles-Gabriel Sauvage, known as Lemire (1747-1827). ) , Child drawing, 1795, bronze, Paris, Musée du Louvre, 0A 11224- symbolizes Poetry in a tenderly playful way. Endowed on its rear side with a flap centered on openwork quatrefoils, the clock rests on a marmoreal base with a curvilinear projection adorned with applied gilded bronzes with motifs of rosettes, acanthus florets, florets and foliage of grained myrtle. All carried by spinning top feet ringed with pearls. --a pair of candelabras with two arms of light with leafy acanthus scrolls punctuated with flowers and small torchieres with flaming brands deploying "in an arabesque" on either side of a central shaft in the shape of a quiver . Encased in corollas of acanthus or lanceolate leaves, the latter is topped with a firepot from which a pine cone blooms. Its pedestal surrounded by gadroons, acanthus leaves and a ribboned laurel torus. Prettily chiseled, pearled, interlacing run through the profile of the bobeches and binets of the lighting structure base on a marble base decorated with a branch of myrtle. Their base is similar to that of the watch piece. Charm and lightness emerge from this elegant watch ensemble imbued with a “neo-Louis XVI” style that is both graceful and flirtatious. Sitting on a small fireplace, a lady's office, it will invite everyone with its menu and fiery Summit Toddler to which the sentimental attributes echo - quivers, flaming torches, myrtle, constituting its candelabras to tease, according to the wishes of the hours, the epistolary universe of a century then lavish in romantic or playful missives.
