“Docks of the Rhône in Avignon”

Work of the Avignon painter Auguste Roure which represents a rare view of the quays of the Rhône to Avignon.
In the foreground, on the left, you can see the old buildings at the foot of the Rocher des Doms. In the background, we can see a boat moored on the quay and in the background Barthelasse and Villeneuve-lès-Avignon with the Philippe le Bel Tower sketched by the artist.
An apprentice engraver in a printing house in Avignon, he was encouraged by his brother and entered the city's school of fine arts. A student of Pierre Grivolas, he participated in exhibitions of the Société Vauclusienne des beaux-arts and attended the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1908.
In 1919, he became a professor at the school of fine arts in the city of Avignon and led an international career, exhibiting in Tokyo (1926) and New York (1928) as well as in Geneva, Melbourne and London.
Dimensions: 46 x 55 cm without frame and 55.5 x 64.5 cm with its modern gilded wood frame.
