Cargo ship and sailboat near the buoy, oil on canvas signed L. ROYON and dated 55 lower left. Louis ROYON (1882-1969) born in Ostend, marine painter, illustrator, poster designer, he was also a sailor. Mousse at fifteen, second lieutenant at seventeen, he received a captain's certificate in 1913. From 1921 he devoted himself mainly to painting and boating. His style is realistic and precise, a founding member of the artistic circle of Ostend (1908) and of the Belgian society of painters of the sea (1930-1974), he exhibited his paintings every year at the Portenart gallery in Brussels with success. His works are scattered in private collections, the Museum of Fine Arts (Ostend) and the National Maritime Museum (Antwerp) also hold them. Frame dimensions height 54 cm width 79 cm
