A student at the Saint-Lô college, he became a tax collector, like his father, authorized representative of the General Treasury of La Manche. But at 33, he decided to abandon his profession for painting. He discovered Concarneau around 1890 and subsequently returned there for more than forty years. Member of the National Society of Fine Arts and the Pastel Society of London, he was appointed painter of the Navy in 1900. He settled permanently in Concarneau in 1903, his house, the famous Ty Ker Moor villa, became a place meeting point for painters from Concarneau. He paints markets, fairs, fishing trips. Painter of silhouettes, he sketches women in headdresses, children. He is the favorite painter of lovers of scenes of everyday life and picturesque scenes. The artist represents Brittany a lot. He is now one of the best-known painters of the Concarneau group.
