Simon Suzanne Nérée Boubée (1806-1862) was a naturalist, entomologist, geologist, author and teacher at the University of Paris, member of the Société entomologique de France (SEF). In 1845, he founded a Naturalia business and a publishing house. He also designed a microscope that bears his name. He amassed a large number of collections and authored a number of works that are still considered reference works today.
As for Maison Boubée, as mentioned above, it was founded in 1845, and was continued by his son Ernest Boubée until his death in 1915, which marked the first closure of the family business. On his return from the war, Ernest Boubée's son, Nérée Boubée (1893 - 1967), decided to reopen the company despite the dilapidated state of the collection following the floods of 1910. Success was immediate. The Maison Nérée Boubée became the "Comptoir Central d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris". Both the company and the publishing house closed their doors for good in 2014.
