"Improviser - After Félix Charpentier - Gilt Bronze"
Bronze representing a young man playing the transverse flute carved from a tree branch.This model was presented by the southern sculptor Félix Charpentier (1858-1924) at the Salon of 1887 where it won a second prize. This sculpture will immediately be acquired by the French State for the Luxembourg Museum. It is today in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay.Félix Charpentier born in Bollène in Vaucluse. A student at the Avignon School of Fine Arts, he was admitted in 1877 to the workshops of Jules Cavelier and Amédée Doublemard at the Paris School of Fine Arts. He was named knight of the Legion of Honor in 1892, then officer of the Legion of Honor in 1901. He created numerous sculptures during his career, notably for the facade of the Grand Palais and the Gare de Lyon and the park Monceu in Paris. His sculpted “Improvisseur” achieved great publishing success.
