Object description :

"Still Life Painting With Ancient Greek Vessels-greece-greek-painting-oil On Canvas-19th Century"
Still life painting with ancient Greek terracotta vessels
Albertine von Dücker, 1872
Oil on canvas, mounted on wood Titled, dated and signed on the reverse "Griechische Alterthümer / Athen 1872 / Albertine von Dücker" and designated by the same hand " Villa Tina - / zu Bückeburg 1873"

Albertine von Vincke (1833-1907) married Franz Fritz von Dücker in 1861. Franz Fritz von Dücker was a 19th-century German painter. He is best known for his works related to Greece and classical antiquity. He spent time in Greece and was inspired by the beauty of the Greek landscape, architecture and history. His paintings often capture scenes from everyday life in Greece, as well as landscapes, ancient monuments and ruins. Franz Fritz von Dücker also distinguished himself in the mining industry and is considered the inventor of the aerial wire rope railway. In 1871, he responded to a call from the Greek government to survey a silver mine. It is likely that his wife Albertine traveled with him and painted the present still life in Athens in 1872. It was probably a gift for his parents, who lived in the "Villa Tina" in Bückeburg, near Detmold.
