Object description :

"Jean-baptiste Roubaud (1871-?) "villa Towards Marseille 1906" Marine Painter, Olive Provence"
Superb oil/canvas by Jean-Baptiste Roubaud representing a villa on the coast near Marseille in 1906, signed and dated lower left. Format of the painting alone without frame 24x33.5cm or 33x42cm frame included. It is therefore a very pretty post-impressionist composition by JBRoubaud from 1906 where he represents an extract from his birthplace, Marseille, a villa and its garden on the edge of the Mediterranean, most probably in the Maldormé cove. As usual, he takes particular care with his drawing, his framing and of course his lively and colorful palette made of ochres, yellow, orange, greens and his famous intense blue, which is not reminiscent of Jean's -Babtiste Olive, who will be one of his main influences. Roubaud will exhibit very regularly, notably in Marseille and Paris. He will therefore make a specialty of painting Marseille and its surroundings, but also the entire French Riviera, Villefranche, Cassis, Cannes, Agay... he will also paint in Venice. He will be appointed official painter of the Navy in 1926. Roubaud is today one of the best Marseille painters of the early 20th century alongside Olive, Alexandre Brun, Crémieux, Gaussen etc... This oil/canvas is placed on a cardboard but not glued, it is in very good original condition, delivered in an old golden frame which has 2/3 missing parts. Guaranteed authentic work
